Abstract

Most disinfectants available in medical institutions are diluted in hospital pharmacy to appropriate concentration for clinical uses. To evalutate the stability and establish the available period of these diluted disinfectants, we measured the antimicrobial activities of 0.02% Chlorhexidine gluconate, 70% Isopropylalcohol, 0.5% Chlorhexidine gluconate in 70% isopropylalcohol, Ethanol handscrub - which are diluted at the department of pharmacy in Asan Medical Center - for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and examined if these effects were changed over time. For the measurement of disinfectant¢¥s availability we made use of test-tube serial 2-fold dilution method, and then inspected the minimum concentration of bacterial growth (MIC) after inoculation and culture of bacteria at 37¡É for 20 hours. This test was repeated at 2-week interval for 12 weeks. As a result, 4 disinfectants all showed excellent antibacterial effects and these efficacies were maintained for 12 weeks.
